Welcome!
My name is Lisa. I am a Licensed Texas Midwife and a NARM Certified Professional
Midwife. I live in McKinney, Texas. I am a wife of 20 years to a loving, supportive
husband and father. Our children range from elementary school to high school. I am
both college educated and a Christian. I fundamentally believe that pregnancy and
birth are natural and normal events.
All my life I have been interested in babies and birth. I am the mother of 4 children. I
have experienced many different methods of birthing. From the boring, cold, clinical
rooms of a hospital to the warmth and comforting surroundings of my own home
birth.
After my first two childbirth experiences, which I consider typical hospital births, I
knew there had to be a better way to experience birth. I found this with the birth of
my third child at Baylor of Dallas with a CNM. I was allowed to birth as I wanted and
this was the beginning of my path to becoming a midwife.
I began reading more about pregnancy and birth. When my third child was 9 months
old I attended my first birth. This was a young mom of about 16 and she was so
strong. She herself had been a home birth. She was confident and knew that this
was a natural, normal process. With this experience I was ready to fully immerse
myself and start my training to become a midwife.
I started attending births in early 1999. Over the next 3 1/2 years I attended births,
postpartum visits, did my book work, read many books, etc. - all the while taking care
of my own family. Also in this course of my journey I was blessed to experience my
own home birth. WOW! What an amazing experience, not just for myself, but for my
entire family.
While in my training period, I assisted 9 other area midwives. I was very fortunate to
have this opportunity and believe that I have benefited from this well rounded
training. I graduated from my Texas Midwifery Training Program in 2002. I have been
in practice for 8 years.
Well that's a little about me. If you would like to discuss your birthing options, please
don't hesitate to contact me.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Lisa Black
