Olea europaea
Let me tell you! When I found out about Olive Leaf I just thought that it is AMAZING! Some of my favorite knowledge about it is the fact that it is highly antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and antiparasitic. I have been studying herbs for years and there are not very many I have found that do all four of those jobs effectively at the same time. In our bodies, Olive Leaf acts as a antibiotic, but only killing off the bad bacteria not the good. It inhibits viruses from infecting our cells, kills fungus and parasites too!
A big reason why Olive Leaf is able to be all these things is due to a bitter compound found in it called oleuropein. Oleuropein has the ability to dilate blood vessels, lower blood pressure and it helps increase the blood flow to the coronary arteries! One of the most important ingredients that make up oleuropein in elenolic acid. This is what is responsible for making olive leaf highly antibacterial, antiviral, antiparasitic and antifungal. There was a study conducted by the Upjohn pharmaceutical company that tested high amounts of elenolic acid on animals. There were no adverse effects of the compound even when they gave the dose several hundred times greater than what was recommended. There was no toxicity or any other negative findings. This shows that it would be really difficult to consume too much of the elonolic acid to get adverse side effects. It helps bring your body into homeostasis and kill off anything that shouldn't be there!
I want to share something specifically that I found about the antiviral properties of Olive Leaf: "Olive leaf's broad killing power includes an ability to interfere with critical amino acid production for viruses; an ability to contain viral infection and/or spread by inactivating viruses by preventing virus shredding, budding or assembly at the cell membrane; the ability to directly penetrate infected cells and stop viral replication."
And
"From research and clinical experience to date, we can say that supplemental olive leaf may be beneficial in the treatment for conditions caused by, or associated with, a virus, retrovirus, bacterium or protozoan. Among those treatable conditions are: influenza, the common cold, candida infections, meningitis, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), encephalitis, herpes I and II, human herpes virus 6 and 7, shingles (Herpes zoster), HIV/ARC/AIDS, chronic fatigue, hepatitis B, pneumonia, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, malaria, dengue, severe diarrhea, and dental, ear, urinary tract and surgical infections."
There is so much benefit one can get form using Olive Leaf long term. This herb is extremely nourishing to the body and helps the overall wellbeing of the person. It is said to be able to balance blood sugar and balance the fat content in the bloodstream.
