Here is a list of things you may want for your natural homebirth or waterbirth! Check with your midwife to find out what items she wants you to provide and what items she will be bringing to your birth. I give my clients a list of things to have on hand, some of which are found on the list below, others, I provide.
Here is a list of things that I provide for my clients:
- Peri bottle
- Herbs for sitz bath & sitz bath (perinuem)
- Chux pads
- 3 ice packs
- Newborn hat
- Bulb syringe
- 3-4 Briefs
- 10-12 pads

Comfort items:
- Twinkle lights
- Speaker or earbuds and your favorite music playlist (music downloaded just in case)
- Birth affirmations

- Small space heater or fans (birth swings widly between hot and cold)
- Clip on lamps

Support people:
- Photographer
- Doula
Food Items
- Snacks
- HVC (Honey, Vinegar & Cayenne) or electrolytes to give energy and strength
- Water bottle with straw
- Have something ready for someone to put in the oven or crock pot when you are in labor to make the house smell cozy and to have something to eat after baby come
More Necessary items:
- Flashlights (always good in case of electrical outage!)
- New role of paper towels
- 2-3 Garbage bags
- 1-2 Clear shower curtain sheets (found at Dollar Tree) or old sheets to lay around birthing space ( you don't know exactly where you will end up giving birth!
- 2 Gallon sized ziplock bags for the placenta
- Towels and washcloths
- Receiving blankets (okay with getting dirty or stained!)
- Diapers and wipes
- Hospital bag -just in case
- Extra pillowcases (if you don't want to get other pillows dirty)
- Laundry bag or basket (so midiwves can start your laundry before they leave)
Postpartum:
- Plan that let's you rest and focus on your baby for 2-6 weeks
- Hydrogen Peroxide
- Chux pads
- Sanitary Pads
- Ice Pads
- Disposable mesh panties
- Peri bottle
- Teas & Tinctures
- Witch Hazel pads
- Arnica oil or cream
- Natural stool softener
Specific for Waterbirth:
- 2 tops or nursing bras, one to be wet and one to be dry
- Slippers
- Bath robe
- Extra towels
